Hi,
When trying the demo, I noticed that the Return key doesn't send a post, but makes a new line, unlike other sites where Shift-return or option-return does that.
Is it possible to configure ishoutbox so that the Return key sends the post?
-
Indeed, return does create a new line. I could add removing the shout button and add posting by enter on my todo list, but i'm not sure what the demand is for something like that. Posting with return is (in my experience) highly annoying and frustrating, as it tends to post messages while you havent finished writing yet (Return is commonly associated with newline).
I did add posting with CTRL-RETURN a few years ago though.

I hear that you find it annoying, and what you described can still happen to me if I'm not careful. But I just copy the shout, delete it, paste it into a new shout, add new lines/paragraphs to it it, and re-post it.
Most of the time I get frustrated when the return key doesn't send, since this is the way a lot of other chats, shouts, Skype, etc, all use the return key as an enter key in this situation, and a modifier key (option for some, shift for Skype and most others so probably shift-return would be preferable to make newlines). Perhaps it could be admin-configurable "Use return key to: (a ) Send, or (b ) Add a new line.

I'll think about it. Posting with enter does work if you setup the shoutbox to use a single line message field instead of a multiline (textarea). With a textarea it currently enters a newline.
-
Does single line field allow embedded returns (using say, Shift-return)?
-
The single line is just what it says "single line", so you cannot use any returns there. It is basically a html "input" field as opposed to the multiline "textarea".
-
Well, that won't work for us. We need to able to have embedded returns in a shout.
Also, I'm curious: Why use Ctrl-return rather than Shift-return or opiton-return as with other sites?
-
The CTRL-Return option was asked for specifically a few years ago to submit a shout without having to press the shout button if used in a textarea (multi line field).
-
Oh sorry, my apologies. it's the opposite of what I was asking for.
Shift-return or option-return should be for adding a newline.

I'll add it to the list. It's a bit of work though, so not something that will be there tomorrow as it needs an item to be added to the adminpanel.
