iShoutbox + Chat4all Shout support and bugs / Re: Shoutbox continuously loading in ie9

Thanks very much Adonix, it's good to know that others can view the shout box.

It's certainly my settings somewhere! Not sure where though, just deleted ie 9 and downloaded and installed ie 11 BUT... It's still the same "Loading"...

Signed ActiveX controls are enabled, Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins enabled and Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting enabled. Enabled Active Scripting and enabled Scripting of java applets.

It took a while, but i found out that Microsoft offers free virtual machines with all major IE versions. I downloaded the one for IE9, and found that it does load your shoutbox without any errors. See the attached screenshot. Maybe you have some Internet Explorer settings disabled or restricted, like javascript.

I don't get any errors, just the constant "Loading Shouts".

Hi Rebel,

This looks a lot like the issue I had with during development IE8, for which I made a code exception (disabled some javascript functions for IE8).  Sometimes if there are javascript errors, execution of any javascript will be disabled, which prevents the shoutbox from functioning. I have no IE9 here, so maybe you can see if you get javascript errors when you load the shoutbox. If there are errors, can you post them here?

As the title says, the shoutbox fails to load in ie9

I've enabled activex controls and plugins, also active scripting, Java applets etc. Works fine in every other major browser.

Shoutbox news / 02-08-2015: Shoutbox update
« Last post by Adonix on August 02, 2015, 09:02:52 PM »
A new iShoutbox update was just released:

Quote
iShoutbox News: Every shoutbox now has a news icon (lightbulb icon) present when an owner, admin or moderator clicks on the additional options icon (green arrowdown icon). This news icon will be yellow when there is new iShoutbox news, and will become blue after the news has been viewed. This is introduced because many shoutbox users do not visit the iShoutbox website, and are thus unaware of important changes/updates to our service. If there is unread news, the lightbulb is also present next to the dropdown arrow.

Moderation update: The shout moderation panel now displays an additional column showing the time and date when a shout was posted. The bookmarks (@ID) are now clickable inside the moderation panel. The bookmarked shout will be displayed below the list of shouts.

Avatar updates: A few items have been added/changed in the Preferences and Settings panel under User Settings:

Enable default iShoutbox avatars: This is a new option that allows you to disable/enable the use of our default 16 pixel avatar icons. This is useful if you want to have avatars like gravatar/facebook, but do not like the standard icons.

Enhanced avatar display 1: This new option allows you to define the avatar layout style. Previously the only style available was the default square or curved corners. This option allows you to select completely round avatars, or square (curved corners if the shouts are cruved).

Enhanced avatar display 2: In addition to the above, you can choose if the avatar should show the online/offline status (if show online status is enabled). It can be shown as a green glow below the avatar, or a green round insert with checkmark (like the online/offline status in skype).

Parse smilies in username: Previously, if smilies were enabled, they would also be parsed in usernames. It is now possible to use smilies, but disallow parsing of smilies inside usernames. This is can be found in the Preferences and Settings, and is called: "Convert Smilies in Name".

Select Skin: The second column in the skin selection window used to show a small colour preview using the colours of the body background, cell1 and cell2. This was years old, and no longer representative of the wide range of new skin editing options. I have changed it so that this column now shows the colour palette, where wide bars constitute much used colours and smaller bars lesser used colours.

New skins: Many of the skins you can select are old and do not use the many new skin editing features. The past few weeks I have created a few new skins, which can be viewed in the skin selection window. One of which is the very bright skin that was present on the demo shoutox in the days after the last update, and i've added a skin matching the palette of facebook and one using the skype palette. There will be more skins soon. One other thing is that it is possible to not only preview and use the skin, but also preview and use it with the settings of the shoutbox that submitted the skin. In case of the skins I added, this means the settings of the demo shoutbox. Official ishoutbox skins will have the suffix "(isb)" after the skin name.

Language override: Registered users can now override the shoutbox language and text orientation from within their profile window.

Tooltip override: Registered users can now remove the black tooltips on the shoutbox from within their profile window.

Shout character cap increase: The previous maximum amount of characters for shouts (selectable from the admin panel) was set at 3,000. It is now set to 20,000. This can be set in the preferences and settings window, and also in Enhanced Privileges.

Keepalive: An ajax poller was added to the preferences and settings window and skin preferences window to prevent a session time-out. Creating a good looking shoutbox skin can take some time, and it is no fun if you want to save your creation, only to find out that your session expired. This poller prevents the time-out.

Shoutbox registration: The registration of new shoutboxes was updated by removing the choice of shoutbox type. Most people already picked the 'complete' option, and many who did pick one of the other options wanted to move to the complete option afterwards. New registrations will now create a 'complete' shoutbox that looks a lot like the demo shoutbox on the ishoutbox.com website. Also, the default welcome message for new shoutboxes is expanded to include info on how to use the shoutbox.

iShoutbox + Chat4all Shout support and bugs / Re: Note for IP bans
« Last post by Adonix on July 21, 2015, 02:50:33 AM »
Hi Nusen,

This is something that has been on my todo list for a while. Along with a way to add automatic triggers to unban users or IP addresses.

I have no idea yet when this will be implemented though. I will be releasing another small update this week.  :bling:

Shoutbox news / Re: 07-07-2015: Shoutbox update
« Last post by Adonix on July 09, 2015, 10:31:01 PM »
Update 08-07-2015: Some bugs emerged after the update was released and are now solved:

  • - Edit shout was not working at Internet Explorer due to IE having a different interpretation of Javascript than Firefox or Chrome.
  • - The shouts were not loading in Internet Explorer 8 due to it not understanding the ctrl-enter shout submission (not sure if it loads in 9 or 10).
  • - I have removed the coloured scrollbar option from the skin preferences and all code for it from the shoutbox. It used to only work in Internet Explorer, but now it seems it's not working in later versions of IE anymore either.
  • - Blink also was not working anymore. It used to only work in some browsers but it seems it is getting removed. However, I have added some javascript to replace it so that it now works in ALL browsers again. I understand blinking can be annoying, which is why the right to use (among others) blink tags can be revoked using the "Enhanced Privileges" system in the adminpanel.
  • - Some people were abusing the move/marquee code by not closing the tag properly, which the shoutbox also failed to correct, which caused the whole shout to move. This is fixed by checking if both the start and end tag are present.

Shoutbox news / 07-07-2015: Shoutbox update
« Last post by Adonix on July 08, 2015, 12:36:34 AM »
The shoutbox system was updated today. The changes and new additions are listed below:

Quote
Notifications (members): Registered members can now choose to be notified when a new shout is being posted while they are logged in. This can be enabled in the profile settings. Users can be notified by audio and/or a desktop notification where for about 5 to 15 seconds a visual notification is displayed, even if the browser is not in view.

Notifications (admins): In addition to the notifications that individual members can enable, an additional setting is available for owners and admins where a desktop notification can be shown whenever a new user registers on the shoutbox. This notification will also show if a user needs to be manually confirmed by an admin.

Extended time-out time: The inactivity AJAX time-out used to be the same (5 minutes) for both guests and registered users. The inactivity time-out for registered users is now extended to 1 hour. This means that AJAX checks for new shouts will continue for 1 hour, and if no activity is detected during that hour, AJAX requests will stop. If activity is detected within that hour, the timer will be reset again.

Shoutbox added/changed layout features: Several changes have been made in the shoutbox layout:

New user count bubble: A count bubble will appear in the shout form on the same line as the username whenever a new user registers and/or needs confirmation. This will appear if a user registers during the time you as owner or admin are logged in. It will also appear when you log in to show how many users have registered since your last login.

Sticky Shout background colour: It is now possible to set the background colour(s) of sticky shouts in the Skin Preferences. To use this, you will need to enable that feature in either the Preferences & Settings section (Option: "Show sticky shouts in a different colour") or enable it in the Skin Preferences. You can set 2 different colours if "Alternating colours" is enabled in Preferences & Settings.

Gradients: More colours can now have gradients set in the Skin Preferences. You can set a gradient, gradient orientation (top/bottom/left/right) and a gradient percentage. The setting changes are immediately visible in the shoutbox preview.

Shout button: It is possible to set a (radial) gradient on the shout button. This looks pretty good, especially in when an icon is used instead of the shout text inside the button. This gradient is only visible when the button is located next to the textarea.

Default Nickname colour: The default colour is nicknames used to be equal to the default colour of shout text. It is now possible to set teh default colour of nicknames to make it different from the shout colour.

Guests Options have moved: The options that were shown at the bottom of the shoutbox, have now moved behind an "options" link inside the shout form (or at the top of the shoutbox if the shoutbox is in private mode). When a user clicks on the options link, the shoutbox will show a list of options, including a login field. This means there is also no popup window anymore when a user wants to login. The options at the bottom of the shoutbox are still visible for shoutboxes that were already registered before this change was created. This can be removed by unsetting the "Show shoutbox options at the bottom (Legacy option)" option in the Preferences & Settings. The adminpanel link is removed in this new options screen.

Registered Member options: For registered members, the options that were at the bottom of the shoutbox, are now accessible by pressing the green dropdown arrow behind their nickname in the shout form. They are shown as icons for "logout, archive, profile, moderation, adminpanel", and can be hidden by pressing the arrow again. The profile window is also accessible by clicking the first letter/character of your nickname.

Edit Shout: The edit shout option for users used to open in a popup window. This is now changed, so that when a user presses the edit shout icon, the shout form is replaced by a Shout Edit form.

Options/shout edit header bars: The new options and edit shout sections have header/title bars. The colour (and gradient) of these bars and the text inside them can be set inside the Skin Preferences window.

Skin Preferences / Skin Selection: These two adminpanel sections already used to show a shoutbox preview. Now, this preview will move up and down when you scroll. This added flexibility also meant I could re-arrange the skin settings in the skin preferences window. The skin settings are now grouped in sections so it is easier to find out what belongs where.

CSS updates: Some settings in the layout CSS have changed. Mostly padding between shouts, space between the avatar and the nickname, etc.

CTRL-Enter shout submission: When a textarea is used to enter shouts, it is now also possible to submit the shout by pressing the CTRL-Enter keyboard buttons.

Pop-out: If the shoutbox is loaded inside an iframe (for example when it is embedded into your website), an addition "Pop-out" option is shown in the options list. When clicked, the shoutbox will open inside a popup and some settings will be (on the fly) changed temporarily to allow the for larger size of the popup.

Smilies cap change: It is now possible to define 100 smilies instead of 50.

Shoutbox border change: The "Change the Table Borders" option in the Preferences & Settings section now only has 2 options instead of 3. The "table and cells" border option was removed because it was not working correctly anymore with the newer layout features, and it would be too much work to fix it. All current shoutboxes that used to have this option set, now uses the "only main table" border.

Autoscroll and Shout form location: When the preferences & settings option "Message list orientation" is set to Ascending (latest shout at the bottom) is selected, the shoutbox now makes sure that the message list autoscrolls down when you load the shoutbox. Also, with some javascript requests the shoutbox would scroll to the top. This is now fixed so that no change in scrolling happens. If the shout form is located at the bottom, bookmarks (when clicked) are now also shown at the bottom.

New shoutboxes: The "complete" shoutbox option is now the default for new shoutboxes. The layout of this shoutbox has been changed/updated with curves, slightly larger font and removal of the options bar at the bottom. Ofcourse new users can update whatever they want from within the admin panel, but I thought this would be a better start than the old shoutbox settings.

Bug fixes: Quite a few bugs have been squashed. Mostly issues concerning CSS (like curves not being visible in several places under certain circumstances), and javascript, but also some usability issues such as an inabi9lity to restore more than one shout at the same time.

Due to the fact that a lot of new options and changes have happened with this new update, it is possible that new bugs were introduced. I have tried to test (and retest) as many options as possible, but due to the huge amount of options, it is possible i missed some. If you find a bug, please let me know :)
